Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 22, 2026
ClapCraft ("ClapCraft", "we", "us") is a small online shop at clapcraft.com, run by Valeria Danilova in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We make custom family tree art, genealogy charts, templates and notebooks. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and what choices you have. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where they apply, the EU/UK GDPR and California privacy laws (CCPA/CPRA).
Questions? Email hello@clapcraft.com.
1. What we collect
Information you give us
• Order details: name, email, billing and shipping address, phone number (if given), and what you bought.
• Personalization details: names, dates, places, photos and other family information you send us so we can make your custom family tree. This may include information about relatives, so please share only what you have the right to share.
• Email sign-up: your email address (and name, if given) when you sign up for free templates or our newsletter.
• Messages: anything you send us by email or through our contact form.
Information collected automatically
• Usage and device data: pages visited, referring site, approximate location (from IP address), browser and device type. This is collected through Squarespace analytics and cookies.
• Advertising data: if you accept marketing cookies, the Pinterest tag records visits and purchases on our site so we can measure and improve our Pinterest ads.
Payment information: payments are handled by Squarespace checkout and its payment processors (such as Stripe or PayPal). We never see or store your full card number.
2. How we use it
• To process orders, make and deliver your products, and send proofs and order updates.
• To answer questions and provide customer support.
• To send free templates you request and, with your consent, our marketing emails.
• To understand how our site is used and to improve it and our ads.
• To prevent fraud, keep records, and meet legal and tax obligations.
Legal bases (GDPR): performing our contract with you (orders), your consent (marketing emails, non-essential cookies), our legitimate interests (site improvement, security), and legal obligations (tax records).
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for automated decisions that significantly affect you.
3. Email marketing (CASL)
We send marketing emails only to people who have opted in, for example by signing up for a free template or our newsletter. Every email identifies ClapCraft, includes our contact information, and has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribe requests are processed promptly (within 10 business days, as CASL requires). We may still send order-related (transactional) emails after you unsubscribe. Our emails are sent with Squarespace Email Campaigns.
4. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies. Essential cookies make the site and cart work. Analytics and marketing cookies (including Squarespace analytics and the Pinterest tag) are used only as allowed by your choice in our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time through the cookie banner or the "Cookie Settings" link in our site footer, or by clearing cookies in your browser.
5. Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers who help us run the shop, and only as needed:
• Squarespace – website hosting, checkout, analytics, email campaigns.
• Payment processors (e.g. Stripe, PayPal) – payments.
• Pinterest – ad measurement, if you consent to marketing cookies.
• Canada Post – to deliver physical items. We print all items ourselves in Toronto, so we share only your name, shipping address and contact details needed for delivery.
• Authorities – when required by law.
6. Where your information is stored
Our service providers may store and process information outside Canada, including in the United States and the EU. That information may be accessible to courts and authorities in those countries. Where GDPR applies, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. How long we keep it
• Order and tax records: as long as required by law (generally up to 7 years under Canadian tax rules).
• Personalization materials (family details, photos): kept for 12 months after delivery so we can help with corrections or reprints, then deleted. You can ask us to delete them sooner.
• Email list: until you unsubscribe.
• Analytics data: according to Squarespace's and Pinterest's retention settings.
8. Security
We use reputable platforms and reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you and the authorities if a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, as required by law.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may:
• ask for access to, or a copy of, your personal information;
• ask us to correct it;
• withdraw consent (for example, unsubscribe or change cookie settings);
• ask us to delete it (subject to legal record-keeping);
• object to or restrict certain processing, or ask for data portability (EU/UK);
• California residents: know what we collect, request deletion or correction, and opt out of "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising (you can do this by declining marketing cookies). We will not discriminate against you for using these rights.
To make a request, email hello@clapcraft.com. We may need to verify your identity. We aim to respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca) or your local data protection authority.
10. Children
Our site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information directly from them. Family details about children that a customer includes in a custom order are used only to make that order.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. We'll post the new version here with a new "Last updated" date.
